Impact made

RedTribe has been working to support the Maasai community for over 10 years. We have provided education and sustainable living resources to help our community adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world. We have seen the growth of the Maasai Academy, a beadwork enterprise to empower women, a health clinic, water projects, mentoring, farming, and infrastructure development. These projects have provided education, employment, healthcare, and other vital resources to the Maasai people, helping them to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world.

2016 — RedTribe Water Projects

In 2016, RedTribe installed its first gravity fed water system in Mausa village impacting 800 people. Since then, we have completed a further 13 water projects, impacting 3750 people in total. A team of Maasai have been trained and empowered to carry out these, and future projects.

Clinic data collected through the clinic shows that these water projects have significantly reduced waterborne disease in the community.

2010 — Maasai Academy Launched

In 2010 The Maasai Academy began with 20 children, one unqualified teacher and a small wooden church building without water.

It has now grown and developed and currently provides education for 300 children.

RedTribe employs 14 qualified teachers and has built 10 classrooms, a kitchen, a store and toilets. In 2016, RedTribe has also brought water to the school.

RedTribe has trained 9 teachers and is the best performing school in the division.

2010 — RedTribe Beadwork Began

In 2010 RedTribe beadwork began with one widow and a few beads.

It now employs between 20 and 40 women enabling them to provide for more than 400 members of their immediate community between them. RedTribe has built a designated workshop, store and kitchen.

With the profits from the beadwork sales, RedTribe has provided the funds to train 9 teachers for the Maasai Academy and subsidised the school to enable children from poorer families to attend.

The beadwork has also provided funds to send 14 children through secondary school, 11 of whom were girls, and 1 girl through vocational training.

RedTribe has helped to empower 3 community members in advocating against FGM and early marriage.

2009 — Farming

In 2009 RedTribe planted it’s first vegetable plot on one acre, and supplemented 2000 meals every month for the children at the Maasa Academy. We planted a wide variety of nutritious vegetables many of which were new to the Maasai.

This has grown and become a demonstration plot for the community to learn about farming. We now supplement 16000 meals every month - mainly for the children and teachers at the school and throughout the team running the different projects.

In the last few years we have also responded to the drought situation by planting 420 acres of maize and beans to provide meals for 400 of the most vulnerable families in the community. We hope to make food security a priority in this next season.

We are developing a honey farm as an income generator to bring sustainability to the projects. We have installed 25 hives to date and have begun to sell honey to a wholesaler.

We have grown a small fruit orchard to date and we are in the planning stages of piloting an avocado farming project within the community.

2006 — RedTribe Clinic Started

In 2006 RedTribe clinic began with one nurse and small ill equipped building providing basic medical treatment to approximately 8000 people in the community.

Since then, it has been developed and grown to a team including a junior doctor, nurse and administrator. The clinic now has 2 consultancy rooms a treatment room, a pharmacy, mobile outpost and a developing dental suit.

In addition to medical treatment, RedTribe Clinic is now able to provide immunisations, health education, dental treatment, pre and postnatal care, emergency transfers and a remote mobile clinic. This enables 5000 more vulnerable people living in a remote area to access healthcare.

RedTribe clinic also provides 13000 meals every month for children at the Maasai Academy.

The clinic now impacts 12000 people in the community.
